Inspection Report - 11/11/2018
OVERVIEW
Today was to prep the hives for the winter weather. This basically involved final prepping of the food reserves and and wrapping the hives.
COLONY 1 - West Facing
I added a winter top to the west facing colony. This is a specialized top that I made which contains burlap base and a body filled with wood shavings to collect moisture. This keeps the moisture off the bees due to condensation, and keep them dry.
I also added some fondant sugar candy for a final push to help them.
Recommendation: No special considerations needed. Next visit will be to treat for mites.
COLONY 2 - North Facing
This colony is very weak due to nosema and there is not much I can do at this point. I will let them be and see if they make it through the winter. If they make it through the winter, more medication will be added to ensure they don’t continue with the nosema infection.
Recommendation: Wait and see how they fair.
