Inspection Report - 7/22/2018

OVERVIEW

This inspection is to determine how the colonies have been responding to the current feeding and temperature changes.

COLONY 1 - West Facing

The west facing colony is busting with bees and doing really well. I would like to see a little more honey built up at this point but they still have time before fall requirements. I added a box to the colony on the last inspection and they seem to be filling that up quite quickly which is great.

As you can see in the image, the colony population is huge! This is good.

I was able to treat for mites using Oxalic Acid. This will be repeated on the next inspection as well.

Recommendation:

Continue feeding but not as regular as before. Treat for mites.

COLONY 2 - North Facing

The north facing colony is growing slower than the west facing, but they are also doing well. The numbers seem to be around 40,000 bees compared to 60,000 in the west facing.

I will continue to feed sugar water on each return trip. This should stimulate the queen to continue laying and get numbers up so that they can be prepared for fall.

I also treated this colony with Oxalic Acid. On the next inspection I will perform another treatment.

Recommendation:

Continue feeding but not as regular as before. Treat for mites.

SUMMARY

Both colonies are doing well. Attention will need to be made to ensure that health stays strong as we start to head into the heat of the summer and lack of food sources as flowers die off. This will be done by feeding and suppliments when nessasary.
