Inspection Report 6/8/2018

OVERVIEW

This inspection was to determine how the bees have responded in the last couple of weeks. There was some concern about how both colonies were doing after the wet spring. On last inspection, the colony populations in both hives was small.

COLONY 1 - West Facing

This colony has really come along in the last few weeks. The sugar water that was given to them on the last inspection was all gone which is a great indication of health. I was able to find numerous eggs and brood and it looks like the queen has kicked into high gear finally!

The main population is in the top box so at some point we will reverse the boxes so that they start to build out the both for the fall.

NORTH COLONY - Clear indication of a growing colony as bees seem to have great numbers.

Recommendation: Continue feeding sugar water on each inspection. On next inspection, reverse the boxes (put top on the bottom, put bottom on the top.

COLONY 2 - North Facing

This colony is coming along nicely as well. They don't have the numbers of the West facing, but they also are building. There was not much space left for them so I added another box to grow in to.

Recommendation: Feed sugar water on each visit and monitor queen. Continue to monitor the population growth as we approach the summer equinox.

NORTH COLONY - A box was added so now they are two deep

SUMMARY

This trip was a total success. Both colonies have started to really produce bees. This is exactly what I was hoping for and what we want to see. Believe it or not we need to have large numbers as we start o move towards the Summer equinox when numbers will slowly start to diminish as we prepare for winter.
